Do we believe in a Father who loves us no matter what happens? Listen as Fr. Mike Schmitz encourages us to persevere in the same faith that brought Jesus hope in His agony.
The True Presence of Christ
Did you know that as Catholics we believe that the Body and Blood of Christ are truly present in the holy Eucharist? It's not just some figment of our imagination or something the Church made up. To our human senses the bread and wine continue to look like bread and wine, but after being consecrated by the priest at Mass, bread and wine turn in to the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Jesus told us in John chapter 6 that His flesh was real food and His blood real drink. Many people found this too hard to believe and stopped following Him. That doesn't make it less true. Sometimes even a priest can have doubts. As an example, in 1263 Fr. Peter of Prague, who was a good priest but had difficulty believing in the True Presence in the Eucharist, was saying Mass. As he spoke the words of consecration, blood began to seep out from the host, down his arms and over the altar. Pope Urban IV researched the event and called it a great miracle, and consequently issued a papal bull starting the Feast of Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ) in the universal Church on Sept. 8, 1264.
